Easily digested tidbits on
healthy food for the family
A healthy diet study was done in the USA with 21500 people. They were asked simply to write down what they were eating over a period of time. The findings of this study was that not a single one of them ate enough of the right kind of food to supply the Daily Recommended Allowance of the 10 most popular nutrients the body needs to function normally.
An Ezine about Food that Feeds the Family
We are only talking about the 10 most popular essential vitamins, like Vitamin, C or Calcium. We are not talking about a comprehensively nutritious diet that includes all the essential amino acids, trace elements, lipids and sterols.
We are not talking about functioning under stress or trying to recover from a cold, or another set back. We are simply talking about functioning one step above being off color.
Most of the diet should consist of whole grains and fresh fruit and veg. Do you eat this much whole grain food (for example rolled oats, brown rice or millet) and fruit and vegetables? Or does your diet look more like the opposite.
For most of us the reverse is true.
We eat mostly sugary foods like cool drinks, choclates and carbohydrates that are either pumped with sugar (biscuits, cakes etc), slathered with margerine (white bread sandwitches) or fried in fat and oil (crisps, fries and doughnuts). The second largest part of our diet consist of protein like egg, meat and cheese and we often fry these too in bad fats like oil and margarine. To add insult to injury, we give the same treatment to our fruit and vegetables frying them, buttering them or adding sugar to them. Ouch! Even pretentiously healthy foods like muffins which sometimes profess to be 'whole wheat' do not add up to much more than one of these.
So, instead of healthy vital lively cells our cells are tired, exhausted and overworked.
If your cells feel like that you would feel the same. Do you?
Before I fixed this problem for myself I felt tired, exhausted and unable to cope with life. I had very little love and everything else was just too much.
If you continue eating like this with too much fried food and sugar one or more of the following five will knock at your door if they are not sitting at your kitchen table already.
How do you keep these unwelcome guests out of your body and the bodies of the people you should be caring for?
Can you get what you need from eating a healthy diet?
The short answer is: “sure”. But the reality is that to accomplish this is extremely difficult, if not impossible, because our life styles put too much pressure on our bodies and we have limited time and resources to care for them. In addition, our food is depleted of nutrients and the availability of good quality food is low. The real question is not a theoretical ‘can you’? But a practical ‘can you’? Change is a good thing, but not if it means killing yourself to accomplish it. A far better route is to change what you can in your diet and supplement where there are still gaps.
