| A monthly ezine brought to you by Petro Janse van Vuuren, changing your life with healthier eating choices
In this mini issue:
1. Monthly Maxim Reminder: Whole and raw – yum yumI have 12 rules of thumb which guide my choices as I walk up and down the aisles in the supermarket, or plan my meals for the week. Every month I feature one of them in this section.Read about all 12 Principles here This month the maxim is: Eat the least refined product, as close to whole and raw as possible. Refining and processing removes much of the goodness mother nature puts into the food. Examples:
Also, the more processed the food, the more likely it is to contain harmful additives. Now some more ideas for implementing this maxim:
2. Mini Article - Snack TimeEat raw snacks and get whole and raw food into your diet.Do you have something whole and raw to snack on right now if you felt like it? Can you reach into your briefcase and pull out an apple or walk up to the fridge and slice off a fat chunk of cucumber? Do you have unshelled nuts you and your kids can have fun with at snack time this afternoon? If not, make a note straight onto your shopping list if you can, or somewhere you will find it when you get home to your list. Write down 4 items you can buy that you and your kids can snack on whenever one of you gets peckish. It must be whole and raw. Here are some ideas: They are prioritised in the order of availability, affordability and popularity in my family.
Raw nuts preferably still in their shells (Unshelled nuts lose much of their nutritional value. Just one Brazil nut - if you buy it shelled and crack it yourself - averages 100 mcg of selenium. While a Brazil nut that you buy already shelled averages 12-25 mcg.) Here are three more ways to take action

Wow...mind blowing stuff to start the year with...I am especially loving his 10 focus areas for a great life. Let me pass them on to you as you go into your new year, maybe redesigning and redefining things a bit:
Think over these things and maybe there are some that could be worked on in our lives. Remember: the only difference between great lives and mediocre ones is the slight edge of awareness and preparedness to fine tune. Go well! Ingrid Robberts
